Polarion administration and configuration functions are all accessible in the Administration perspective. The selector for the Administration perspective only appears in the Polarion user interface if you have administrative rights for the scope you are accessing, and currently selected "Hat" is configured to display the Administration perspective selector (see Configuring My Hat). For example, if you have administrative rights for Project A, but not for Project B and not for the repository, the Administration perspective selector will only be visible in the main navigation panel when you select Project A in the Projects portlet (again assuming your current "Hat" is configured to display the perspective selector). If you select Project B or Repository, the selector will not be available and you will not have access to administrative functions for those areas.
When you enter the Administration perspective, the Topics portlet contains a tree of links that provide navigation to various administration functions and related configuration files. Nodes displaying a + icon are topic categories; clicking such nodes expands them to show the available topics. Clicking a topic opens the relevant administrative function in the Work Zone. In some cases, you will be able to do everything with graphical controls in the . portal user interface. For example, all the tasks for managing user accounts can be performed this way. In other cases, where editing some configuration file is necessary, the Work Zone provides access to and information about the configuration file, help texts (or access to online help), controls for downloading the current version and uploading the modified file(s) back to the repository, and in most cases, a text editor portlet that enables you to edit the XML for the configuration on line.
Each of the available topics is documented in this chapter. Reference information about data fields and configuration file schemas is provided in the Administration Reference.
